What makes an athlete activist?
Investigate the intersections between sports, race, and politics through the example of Jackie Robinson in this interactive program rich with meaningful discussion, one-of-a-kind artifacts, and primary source analysis. Trace the evolution of Jackie Robinson’s approach to athlete activism through his youth in Pasadena, barrier-breaking baseball career, and his post-baseball career as a civil rights activist, community-minded entrepreneur, strategic political operative, and vocal media figure. Wrap up by connecting Robinson’s actions and strategy to athlete activists at the forefront of social change today and empower teens to join the conversation around today’s pressing issues.
SUBMIT INQUIRY TO PILOT
Piloting in Fall 2025
Be the first to experience this all-new program! We’re looking for high school groups to try out this program between October and December 2025. We’ll reduce the program fee and only ask for your thoughtful feedback in return!
Who are we looking for?
The program is designed with grades 10-12 in mind, but we’re open to hearing from you even if you are working with a slightly different population (i.e. 8th-9th graders or college classes), especially if you think the program content is a great fit for your group! Also, it’s not just for school classes – ask about scheduling a visit for your sports team, enrichment program, teen interns, etc.
Submit the inquiry form and we’ll get back to you to schedule your visit. If we aren’t able to accommodate all inquiries during the pilot phase, you’ll have the first chance to book the program once it’s “official” as a regularly scheduled field trip.
How does it connect to my curriculum?
The content of the program intersects with US History and Civics and courses on topics such as Sports and Society, Civil Rights Activism, and African American History. The primary source analysis and interpretation embedded in the program supports Common Core standards for literacy in History and Social Studies.
